Project 4 Final Statement

For this project, my goal was to create a horror game with a number of paths the player can go down. The general premise I selected was that the player was being chased by a shadowy and difficult to see figure through the woods, making choices about how to escape along the way. I am a fan of the Fallout video games, and in the early games of that franchise the character's death will prompt a screen which details how they died, the consequences of their death for the main story, and an animation of their bones rotting in the wasteland. The death screen will change depending on where the player is in the story and the decisions they've made up to that point. Using this as inspiration, I wanted each of my gifs I made for the project to be death screens for the character, with a different death depending on what choices the player made to lead them there. Taking further inspiration from the batman animated series, I chose to make all of the death screens be black and red, both to set a more gruesome tone and also to use the silhouettes of the characters to obscure most of the gore. For the easter egg of the project, I decided to have a fake-out, where if the player selects the options that would most likely get them killed, they would discover the monster was actually a Newfoundland dog. I did this both to be funny, to make the ambiguous design of the monster have some meaning, and also because I have a very large Saint Bernard at home who I imagine would look a lot like a monster if he were chasing me through the woods at night, and also could definitely kill me very easily if he wanted to.
