For the upcoming project, I am aiming to create a story which follows an individual going from a work or educational setting wherein they become overwhelmed with stress, conveyed by repeating email and canvas notifications which grow louder and louder, and as a means of compensating, they go to the bathroom. I am still undecided on the specifics of this scene, but I am planning to have them look at their reflection in the mirror and then submerge themselves in either the bathtub or their face in the sink. At this point, the video will then transition to the animated portion. For this section, I am aiming to have ambient music and radiant animated graphic elements appearing on the screen timed with the audio. I am hoping that this section conveys a relaxing and spacey emotion that is meant to be a respite from the stress the character is feeling earlier. The inspiration for the animated segment comes from a film I enjoy called Self Discovery for Social Survival, which uses animated ambient segments between vignettes to reset the tone of the film. The focus of the film is combining video with sound, with the soundtrack written by a team of multiple artists who composed the soundtrack in response to the video recorded. I am hoping to replicate the cohesion between sight and sound achieved by this film in my animated section. While there are some sections I’m not entirely decided upon and much more work to do, I have a good grasp of what I am setting out to do and confident in my ability to produce a compelling work.
